Global Technology Is Not Static

Technology is something which always keeps changing.  What is the in thing today is bound to become outdated and obsolete within the next few years.  A few examples of these are the initial record players which used those 33 rpm records.  This was replaced with tape recorders using the big spool type storage devices.  This gave way to cassette recorders which has now been replaced by CDs and DVDs.

The same is the case with computers which is perhaps the greatest invention of mankind over past 60 years.  Today we have computers which are at least 10 times more powerful and fast than the first main frame computer which used to make so much noise and generate so much heat that it had to be shut down regularly.

The only mode of communication that we were aware of in the early 1950 and 1960’s was the telephone.  Talking over the telephone was considered a great achievement and getting a connection through was considered even a greater achievement.  With the arrival of mobile phones telecommunication has moved to the next high level of accomplishment and today talking to someone of communication has become a very easy job.  Not only talking, mobile phones have also made it possible for us to have a browser, tape-recorder, a video-camera, a still-camera and a pager all rolled into one. Such is the power of technology.

Looking at history we can safely conclude that as far as internet and computer technology is concerned, we have just scratched the surface and many path breaking and revolutionary changes are in the offing over the next few years.  But one point which should be borne in mind is that technology should be used only for the benefit of mankind and to make this world a better and happier place to live in.  It would be a crime to use technology to pit one human being against another.

Global Technology At Your Door Step

Internet has changed the way of life for thousands of people and there are many instances where thousands of people have raked in huge money using internet as a marketing tool.  However, all this would not have been possible without the existence of computer and in our praise for the growth of internet we at times tend to overlook the faithful computer which has been serving us so faithfully and loyally for the past so many decades.  So the growth of internet is closely intertwined to the growth of computer as a medium for processing, storing and retrieving information.

While internet is slowly becoming an integral and inseparable part of everyone’s life, it has to be borne in mind that there is a flip side to it.  People are slowly becoming internet morons and are getting addicted to it as they get addicted to other vices such as smoking, drinking and substance abusing.

Many people, especially the younger generation are getting glued to the internet for hours together and in the process they even lose sight of their friends, relatives and at times even their own kith and kin.  This is a dangerous trend because technology at the end of the day should be used for making better human beings, who are well informed, knowledgeable but at the same time humane and possessing the desired emotional quotient.

While growth of global technology cannot be stopped or reversed and it should not happen so, care has to be taken to ensure that we still continue to remain human beings. We should take time off from the internet and indulge in other activities like socializing, reading books, playing some outdoor games and above all being nice and polite to people in general.
